Guthrie CastleFred and Shirley Guthrie daydreaming of Scotland
Fred and Shirley met in the Library of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond Virginia in 1957 and were married August 9, 1958 in Charlestown, West Virginia where he was serving as an associate pastor. Their daughter Ruth was born in Richmond, VA in 1959 and six months later, Fred received his first job as pastor of Franklin Presbyterian Church in Franklin, NC. There they had two more children, Anne and Fred III. In 1965 (I think) they moved to Wildwood Florida, where they had some interesting things happen and then moved to Apopka, Florida where Fred was pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. They lived there quite happily until around 1970 when Fred wanted to work on his Doctorate of Divninty degree.
The family moved to Columbia, SC for a year while Fred did an internship at a psychological institue.
After that year, they moved to Lake City, SC and stayed there for about 5 years before moving to Rabun Gap, GA where Fred was chaplain of Rabun Gap School.
From there, they have been in Helen, GA and Jackson GA before deciding to join the PCA. They moved to Gainesville, Texas and lived there a few years before moving back to Georiga and supplying at a church in Stone Mountain. Then, Fred and Shirley felt the calling to Palm Coast, Florida to be church plants and were there until they retired a couple of years ago.
Everywhere they have been, they have witnessed about God's grace and love and have always opened their home to everyone. You will never meet a more loving and Godly couple!!
They have made many sacrifieces for their family and after God, have ALWAYS put their children and grandchildren first.

Details of place and time coming soon......
Fred and Shirley have always dreamed of visiting Scotland and Guthrie Castle but have never been able to go. The children of Fred and Shirley are hoping to raise funds in lieu of gifts to be able to surprise them. Mom and Dad love to explore on their own so we are planning a trip to spend:
2 days in London, 2 days in Edinburgh, 1 day in Forfar (home of Guthrie Castle, 2-3 days in the Highlands and return from Glasgow. They will rent a car and we will book nice Bed and Breakfast hotels so they can meet the locals and take their time exploring.
They have talked of this trip for 50 years and now is the time for their dream to come true. Thank you for help. We also look forward to seeing everyone at the party in August. We really appreciate any gifts in helping them realize this special dream.
